Director Will Launch Innovative Youth Serving Organization
A partnership led by Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP), Inc. is seeking to hire a Founding Director to launch an innovative organization focused on the educational and career success of 16 to 24 year olds in Appalachian Kentucky. Founding partners of this new organization include Partners for Education, Fahe, Save The Children, and the Brushy Fork Leadership Institute.
The Founding Director will provide vision and leadership to an organization that takes a place-based, comprehensive approach to ensuring youth are provided a pathway to success and economic mobility. The organization will use a collective impact approach to secure and braid public and private investments to ensure all youth are provided a pathway to success, align multi-sector partners to work toward shared outcomes, and identify and dismantle systemic barriers that impede the progress of youth. The Founding Director will develop a structure that ensures that the founding partners, youth, and employers are engaged in the organization’s governance and leadership structure.
The organization’s goal is to launch a flagship youth internship program by the coming summer with at least 150 youth finding placement in paid summer internships. The internships pay $10/hour for up to 35-40 hours a week and last 10 weeks. They will be complemented by a professional development curriculum delivered through four offsite seminars over the course of the internship. The Founding Director will be responsible for hiring key staff, working with partners, establishing employer relationships, and helping recruit internship candidates. To support this program, the Founding Director will work closely with an established Youth Advisory Council and Employer Advisory Council to help design, implement, and modify components of the program. The Youth Advisory Council is composed of 17 members ages 16 to 22 representing six communities in the region; the Employer Advisor Council has 17 members representing 14 businesses in the region.
The successful candidate for the Founding Director position will be a dynamic and collaborative leader in the region with proven success sustaining organizations through private and public dollars, addressing systemic barriers and inequities, and running successful programs and initiatives. They will also have deeply established networks in the region and throughout the nation with a strong understanding of various communities’ assets and challenges.
