Local Youth Secures Lineman Career Thanks to EKCEP’s Kentucky Career Center Assistance

Nineteen-year-old Kameron Collier from Perry County has successfully completed rigorous lineman training and secured a job as a Groundman with Hurley Electric, thanks to comprehensive support from EKCEP’s LKLP Kentucky Career Center. This success story is a testament to the program’s ability to help young people launch careers in high-demand fields.

Collier, having recently graduated from high school, was seeking financial assistance and career guidance to pursue his dream of becoming a lineman. Lineman training is notoriously expensive, and Collier’s parents had heard about EKCEP’s tuition assistance programs. Collier contacted Thelma R. Bowling, LKLP Career Advisor, who guided him through every step of the process.

“Kameron was incredibly dedicated from day one,” said Bowling. “He quickly provided all the necessary documentation and actively participated in every stage. We discussed everything from the dangers of the job and pay rates to how weather affects the work and dealing with heights. Our goal is to ensure clients are fully prepared for the realities of their chosen careers.”

EKCEP’s Kentucky Career Center provided full tuition payment for Collier’s lineman training, crucial support services for travel assistance, and a complete set of lineman tools necessary to begin his new career. Collier completed his lineman training, including obtaining a Class A CDL license, on December 18, 2024.

Despite the common challenge of his age – linemen often face restrictions on out-of-state travel or CDL use until age 21 – Kameron swiftly found employment. “While I encouraged him that he would gain employment, I also made him aware of potential age restrictions,” Bowling noted. “However, with Hurley Electric, this was not an issue, as Kameron has already been working in West Virginia.”

Less than a month after completing his training, Collier officially joined Hurley Electric.

“I could’ve never done this career choice without their help,” Collier stated. “The staff is helpful and guides you through the whole process. I would definitely recommend others to contact LKLP for the services they offer.” Collier also noted the continuous support he received, including assistance with filling out the application for Hurley Electric.
